Communication is critical to being a great Organizer. The more you involve your Members in your Meetup, the more invested (and happy) they will be with your group.
Here are some great ways to involve members and get their feedback:
-
Introduce yourself in a group email
When stepping up as Organizer, it is a good idea to introduce yourself to the group and invite their feedback.
- From the left-hand side of your group's welcome screen, find the left-hand sidebar, click Email Group
-
This email form can be used for just about anything that you need to tell your group about. Here are some ideas:
- introduce yourself
- give news about members and group accomplishments
- welcome to new members
- announce new events, interesting message board discussions or polls
- gently remind them to RSVP, even with a 'No.'
- You can send it to all members, or you can pick a subset of your group if you do not want it to go out to everyone.
- There is an option at the bottom that allows you to post the message automatically to your group's message board. This can provide a useful record of group messages for members, but do not use it for messages with strictly private content.
-
Message boards
Your group has a message board to which any member can post. Posts to the message boards are on the internet, and thus are public. However, they can be a great place to have a detailed discussion of issues that concern your group.
- From the left side bar menu of your group, select Message Board.
- You can either start a new discussion or reply to one that is ongoing.
- If you want a daily update of new messages to your board, click Track this Message Board.
-
Polls
Using Polls
You can use polls for just about anything.
Ask your members logistical questions:
- what to name the group;
- where you should meet next;
- what days are good to meet.
You can also ask them topical questions just for fun, depending on the Meetup, or questions that are humor-related.
Starting a poll
- From the left-hand side of your group's welcome screen, click Polls.
- Click Add a poll and fill in the relevant fields to start your poll.
- When you are finished, click Submit.
- If your group has been inactive, use the 'Email Group' form to let the group know that the poll exists and you'd like their feedback.
- Don't forget to vote in the poll yourself to set a good precedent!
Closing polls and starting new ones
To close a poll or start a new one...
- Go to the current open poll.
- You will see several buttons below it with different options like Edit or Close. Select the option that best meets your needs.
