Invite your friends and Meetups in the Making members

A great way to get members into your Meetup Group is to invite your friends. Here's how:

  1. From your Meetup group's Our Home page, click the "Promote!" link.

  2. Click 'Invite friends to your Meetup'.

  3. Enter your friends' email addresses, a friendly message, and click "Invite Friends".

Ask your friends to pass the message on to anyone else they think would be interested. Word of mouth will get you more members!

At a loss for words? Here's a simple invite you can use:

Hi Everybody,

I just started a new Meetup group, The Jersey City Hiking Meetup Group. I invite you to join!

You can view our group here:

Please pass this email to anyone you think might like to participate in the group.

Hope you'll join us!

Sincerely,

Matt

After inviting your friends, extend a friendly welcome to the Meetups in the Making members. If you send them a personalized message, they're twice as likely to join. Why? Because it shows that you're an active, enthusiastic Organizer who cares!

To invite Meetups in the Making members:

  1. Go to your Meetup group's Our Home Page and click "Promote!".

  2. Click the "Invite Meetup members".

  3. Click "Invite XYZ to join your group" next to a member, compose your message, and click "SEND".

At a loss for words? Here's a simple invite you can use:

Edit your Group Description

Tell people what your Meetup group is all about, what you want to achieve and what members can expect. All in a fun and welcoming tone. People like things that are fun and welcoming.

For example, Jonathan Durston wrote this description for his group, The Chicagoland Cycling Meetup Group, :

Casual Rides for fun all over the Chicagoland area. See great neighborhoods, beautiful scenery and meet great people too! Short rides are 20-25 miles and long rides are 40-50 miles. We go 8-12 mph avg. We ride on limestone and asphalt trails.

A simple, short description tells prospective members what your Meetup is all about and gets the right ones to join!

To edit your Group Description:

  1. Click 'Welcome' on the left side of the page

  2. Click 'Edit description'

  3. Tell us awesome things about your group!

  4. Click 'SUBMIT' at the bottom of the page
