Greater Denver Urban Homesteading Group presents:

Cheesemaking 101 Class: Making Farmhouse Cheddar

Topics:

Homesteaders - Gardening - Green Home - Pet Chicken - New Urbanism & Sustainable Development - Disaster Preparedness - Permaculture

Type of Event:

A class on making cheese!

Description:

Bonnie has agreed to let us use her great big kitchen to have a cheesemaking session!

I will be teaching the class and will cover the basics of making hard cheeses. Soft cheeses are really easy, and should technically be the 101 level class, but if you can make a hard cheese like cheddar then mozzarella should be no problem for you to figure out on your own after this class.

I am by no means a cheese making expert. If one of you are, then I invite you to teach instead of me. ;-) But I have successfully made mozzarella several times, and have made three great wheels of cheddar and one really bad wheel of cheddar (I didn't let it dry enough before sealing in wax). I still have to look at the book while I'm working, but I get better every time.

What made this a can't miss Meetup?

Learning to do things for yourself is what the Greater Denver Urban Homesteading Meetup Group is all about. They've hosted past Meetups on everything from making bread to raising chickens.

There are a couple of really great things about this particular Meetup. But just as great is the spirit of sharing knowledge and skills with others that clearly comes through in the description. You don't need to be an expert to be an Organizer. You just have to be willing to take the time and energy to share your passions with others. Plus, they're making their own cheese. How cool is that?

What they had to say about it:

"Excellent presentation of the process of cheese making. I'm so excited to make my own first batch!" from Monica.

"Everett really thought out how to present this class, with three batches going at once and giving lots of information during the "dead" times. We learned so much and now have the confidence to give it a try. Thank Bonnie for offering your wonderful spacious kitchen!" from Terri.

"Move over Ace of Cakes her comes The King of Cheese. Everett did a superb job instructing the class. He answered all questions and was very well prepared. I really enjoyed learning the process and can't wait to make my first wheel...I had such a Gouda time!!! " from Kathleen.
